After the clearly over-the-top 10-point penalty deduction, it's time for Evertonians to invoke the spirit of and get behind Sean Dyche and the team even more than before.
The Premier League is obviously seeking to make an example of the club to try and fend off the imposition of a regulator by the Government but already it seems to have backfired.
In reaction to the decision, Dame Caroline Dinenage MP, Chair of Parliament's Culture, Media and Sport Committee, said: "The announcement will be deeply disappointing for Everton fans, and for everyone who wants to see the English game thrive in a fair and sustainable way.
It is clear that the status quo cannot continue, and so I repeat my call for the Government to urgently introduce the Football Governance Bill, as announced in the King's Speech, to enable a statutory independent regulator to be in place as soon as possible."
The initial battle may have been lost but, as far as Everton fans are concerned, the war against the Premier League's unjustifiable sanction for a first offence is only just beginning.
