In June 1995, Bruce Rioch made Dennis Bergkamp his first signing as Arsenal manager, paying Inter Milan £7.5 million for the Dutch striker. Rioch was replaced at the end of the 1995-96 season by Arsene Wenger and it was under the Frenchman that Bergkamp’s career blossomed. This hat-trick was hailed by Leicester boss Martin O’Neill as the best he had ever seen and the sublime third goal - Bergkamp pulling a long pass out of the air, flicking the ball around the defender and curling it into the net - was later voted Goal Of The Season.
